Encouragement of using local labor: First, Vietnamese and foreign companies are encouraged to use local labor. Otherwise, they have to explain the reasons why skilful employees are foreign, not Vietnamese. Second, companies must gradually train Vietnamese employees in order to replace foreign ones.

Working time

People work from Monday to Saturday, 8 hours/day and 48 hours/week. This could be higher or lower, depending on agreements between employers and employees. The amount of extra time payment is 150% for week days and 200% for weekends and off holidays if employees work for more than 12 hours/day.

Trade union

All companies must allow their employees to participate in union activities. And all issues arising between employers and employees must be solved by negotiation. If they cannot be solved, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs will be involved.

Minimum salary

§ 55 USD/month for manual workers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City;

§ 50 USD/month for manual workers in smaller cities like Hai Phong, Da Nang, Vung Tau, Can Tho;
§ 45 USD/month for other provinces.
